Well I’ll be! It seems Georgina the hen has become George the cockerel. Jane Howorth, who runs the Battery Hen Welfare Trust in Chumleigh, Devon, began noticing that one of her rescued hens, Georgina, was beginning to develop hairy legs. Then over the next few years she slowly stopped laying eggs and began developing a red cockscomb on her head. Jane knew for sure that Georgina had become George when she started cock-a-doodling in the early morning hours and showing a greater interest in the ladies of the hen house.Georgina is a hermaphrodite chook. I guess she decided after years of being used and abused as a egg laying vessel she would transform herself into rooster. No more bleeding bum for her!
