If a plane was ever hit by a meteor, I doubt that the government would reveal it to the media.

Kind of a like a negative reversal of “A bird in hand is worth two in the bush”–they should take care of the problem at hand (the fire); they have no time to ground the planes based on reports of a possible meteor shower (a meteor shower is always possible).
Whats the odds of getting kaboomed by a meteorite? Little to nil me thinks.
