Have You Been Rickrolled Lately?

OK, I must admit I could never understand why I occasionally clicked a link on Youtube and got the freaky suited 80’s singer Rick Astley cooning “Never Gonna Give You Up” ( I just thought it was someone just pulling the piss). Little did I know I had been “rickrolled”. Yep, its a phenomenon which started in 2007 and was soon known as “rickrolling”.It is believed the first “rickroll” began as a prank trailer for the release of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV. Don’t feel sorry for him though, the guy has already had over 25 million hits to that song thanks to the pranksters behind it.The Stock Aitken Waterman poster boy video usually appears when a popular story is breaking on YouTube . Unfortunately Rick, unlike people like David Hasselhoff (The Hoff), hasn’t embraced his new found fame. Sure he is a laughing stock, but any publicity is good publicity, especially when you are a ‘has been’. The “rickrolling” has been such a huge success the baggy suited singer was the only Brit to win an award at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Act Ever. The sour puss refused to accept the award and just about wore jeans when asked to record an acceptance speech.on April 1, 2008, YouTube pranked its users by making every single featured video on the front page a Rickroll. Wanna see the Wikipedia page dedicated to rickrolling it lists all the rickrolling pranks.

Oh and don’t even think about it, the YouTube video’s have been disabled.
