    That’s funny!

    I’ve heard that one of the reasons the bubonic plague killed so many people in Europe was the lack of cats–especially black cats. “Witches” (who were really just people who followed the pre-Christian
    European religious practices) were slaughtered all over Europe–but so were cats. Because the Christian Europeans believed cats–especially black cats–were familiars (demonic servants in animal form) of “witches”. As a result, there were no cats to kill the rats that carried the fleas that carried the bubonic plague!
